Low-stress visits
We want all of our patients, including cats, to have low-stress visits. Cats can be especially sensitive to the smells and sounds of a veterinary clinic. We try to minimize their stress here by using low-stress handling techniques. This can include letting them hide in their carrier or under a towel, using Feliway, a calming cat pheromone, on our towels, and providing treats during the appointment.
Some cats are very stressed here and can benefit from sedation medications during their visit. Gabapentin is a pain medication given at home prior to their visit to help get them in the carrier and allow and exam and treatment safely. Please call the office if you think a calming medication is needed prior to your appointment.
Arthritis Treatment Options for your Cat
As cats age, they are likely to get arthritis at some point. Unlike dogs, cats can hide their pain well. We know that at the age of 12 years, 90% of cats have arthritis. We have more treatment options now than ever to help cats with this pain.
Solensia is a monthly injection for cats that can decrease pain from arthritis with minimal side effects. You do not have to worry about medicating your cat at home. This injection is a monoclonal antibody, which blocks the source of arthritis pain very specifically, making it the safest option especially in older cats.
